Dr. Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital confirmed that the actor suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence early Thursday morning. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, including 45 minutes of CPR, the legendary performer could not be revived. A medico-legal case has been filed, and a post-mortem examination is currently pending to determine the final details surrounding his passing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to the late icon during the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress at Yashobhoomi. Reflecting on Patekar’s illustrious career, the Prime Minister described him as an exceptional artist who never allowed himself to be confined by the boundaries of conventional roles. Praising his versatility, PM Modi noted that the actor soared freely across the skies of cinema like a bird, consistently winning over audiences with his diverse and powerful performances.
Beyond his cinematic achievements, the Prime Minister highlighted the actor’s role as a social revolutionary. He noted that Patekar used his platform to challenge societal injustices and speak out against social evils, noting that his words were as impactful as his signature silence. The Prime Minister extended his deepest condolences to the actor’s family, friends, and his vast legion of admirers, acknowledging his firm stance against forces that worked against the nation.
Nana Patekar’s legacy remains etched in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, beginning with his 1978 debut in Gaman. Throughout his decades-long career, he delivered iconic performances in films like Parinda, Krantiveer, Tiranga, and Ab Tak Chhappan. Even in his later years, the veteran remained a fixture on the big screen. He was recently involved in the upcoming Housefull 5, alongside Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan, and had also completed work on Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo and a cameo in Subedar.
