Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the tributes, describing the actor’s demise as an irreparable loss to the world of art. Reflecting on a career spanning five decades, Shah highlighted Patekar’s unique ability to breathe life into diverse characters, ranging from intense social dramas to light-hearted satire. Beyond the silver screen, Shah praised the actor’s grounded nature and his significant social contributions, particularly his work with the ‘Naam Foundation’ to support drought-affected farmers and his efforts to boost the morale of soldiers stationed at the borders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his condolences, noting that few actors could match the intensity and unmistakable presence that Patekar commanded. The Prime Minister lauded his versatility in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, noting that his performances left an indelible mark that will be remembered for generations. Modi also acknowledged Patekar’s reputation for being frank and forthright, qualities that earned him immense respect from colleagues and fans alike. NCP-SCP leader Rohit Pawar expressed his personal shock at the news, sharing that he had been in contact with the actor just days ago regarding a student movement, a cause Patekar had expressed interest in supporting.
