Veteran producer KC Bokadia has shared a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the casting process for the 2002 hit Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam. In a candid conversation, Bokadia revealed that the legendary screenwriter Salim Khan was the primary reason Salman Khan signed on to the project. According to the producer, the bond between him and the senior Khan was so strong that when Salim Khan visited him at Mehboob Studio and asked him to trust his judgment, the deal was essentially sealed. Salman reportedly agreed to the role without ever hearing the script or watching the original film.
Bokadia also shed light on how he brought Shah Rukh Khan on board, despite the two having never met before. At the time, the superstar was busy shooting at Filmistan Studios. After being prompted by a production manager to meet the producer, Shah Rukh stepped out to hear the pitch. After viewing the original Tamil film, Thotta Chinungi, Shah Rukh initially expressed hesitation, stating that it wasn’t the type of project he usually gravitated toward. However, he ultimately signed the film as a personal favor to Bokadia.
Directed by KS Adhiyaman, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam remains a beloved part of Bollywood history, boasting a powerful lead trio of Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Madhuri Dixit. The film, which also featured a memorable cameo by Aishwarya Rai, was a direct remake of the Tamil movie Thotta Chinungi. Decades later, the film continues to hold a special place in the hearts of fans for its unique star power and the interesting story of how its iconic cast came together.
