The auspicious start of Navratri brought a special surprise for cinema lovers as the makers unveiled the first look of the upcoming animated feature, Maha Devi Adishakti. Officially titled Maha Devi Adishakti – The Legend of Maa Durga, the film promises to bring the timeless tales of Indian mythology to the big screen. Directed by Milind Nandanwar and penned by author Akshat Gupta, the project is slated for a worldwide theatrical release in February 2027.
Produced by Gaurav Malhotra under the banner of Artha Entertainment and Animation, the film explores the powerful narratives of Goddess Durga, including her victory over the demon Mahishasura as Mahishasuramardini and her fierce manifestation as Goddess Kali. With music composed by Shreyas Puranik, the makers are betting big on a blend of spirituality and visual storytelling to captivate younger audiences. A dedicated team of over 150 animators is currently working on the film, choosing the intricate craft of hand-drawn animation over modern artificial intelligence to maintain the sanctity and essence of the stories.
Director Milind Nandanwar expressed his gratitude, describing the film as a divine responsibility to share the wisdom of Sanatan Dharma with a new generation. Producer Gaurav Malhotra added that the project is designed as a family experience, aiming to bridge the gap between grandparents, parents, and children through a shared cultural journey. By reimagining devotional stories in a format that resonates with today’s digital-savvy youth, the team hopes to preserve India’s spiritual heritage while offering a cinematic spectacle that families can enjoy together when it hits theaters in 2027.
