According to recent court filings, a California judge approved the 21-year-old’s petition on September 28, legally changing her name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie. The request, which faced no objections, follows a similar move by her elder brother, Maddox, whose name change to Maddox Chivan Jolie was finalized on September 14.
Zahara had been using her mother’s surname publicly for some time, including during her Spelman College graduation in May and when joining her sorority last year. She is now the third of the former couple’s six children to legally remove their father’s surname. Her sister Shiloh also filed to remove “Pitt” after turning 18 earlier this year, while the youngest daughter, Vivienne, has a hearing scheduled for November 2 to finalize her own name change petition.
These legal developments highlight the ongoing estrangement between Brad Pitt and several of his children following the couple’s high-profile 2016 separation and subsequent divorce finalized in December 2024. While the FBI and child services previously cleared Pitt of abuse allegations stemming from a 2016 private plane incident, sources close to the actor describe the current lack of contact with his adult children as a tragedy. While some reports suggest a campaign of alienation, the reality remains that the Jolie-Pitt children are increasingly distancing themselves from their father’s name as they step into adulthood.
