Subhash Kale recalls his final conversation with Nana Patekar before his sudden passing

The film fraternity is reeling from the sudden demise of veteran actor Nana Patekar, who passed away at the age of 75 following a severe cardiac arrest at his Goa residence. Among those deeply affected by the loss is Subhash Kale, the co-producer of Patekar’s upcoming crime thriller, The Confession. Kale revealed that the duo had spoken as recently as two days ago, making the news of the actor’s death feel surreal and devastating.

Recalling their final interaction, Kale shared that Patekar was expected to fly into Mumbai to wrap up minor post-production work for the project. The actor had only one line of dialogue left to record for the film. According to Kale, Patekar had promised to head straight to the studio upon his arrival, stating, “I’ll come tomorrow, and we’ll do that one line.” The producer expressed his shock at the timing, noting that he only confirmed the tragic news after reaching out to Malhar early Thursday morning.

Beyond their professional commitments, Kale fondly remembered the personal bond they shared. He described their time in the studio not just as work, but as a space for camaraderie where they would joke, sing, and spend quality time together whenever the actor visited the city. Patekar, a stalwart of Hindi and Marathi cinema, leaves behind a legacy of iconic performances in films like Parinda, Krantiveer, and Ab Tak Chhappan. He had been active until the end, with recent appearances in projects like Housefull 5 and Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo.

Medical reports from Manipal Hospital, where Patekar was rushed after feeling unwell, confirmed that doctors attempted to revive him for 45 minutes before he was declared dead. The actor had reportedly reached out to a friend around 2:30 am to express that he was feeling ill, leading the friend to arrive at his home by 4 am. As the industry mourns, Kale prepares to travel to Goa, still struggling to process the loss of a colleague and friend who was just one day away from completing his final professional commitment.
