The couple opened up about the terrifying incident from January 2025, when an intruder named Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad broke into their home with the intent to commit theft. The confrontation turned violent, leaving Saif with stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body, ultimately requiring emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital.
Recalling the chaos of that night, Kareena became visibly emotional as she recounted her desperate attempt to get Saif medical help. In a moment of pure panic, she rushed out of their residence in her nightwear—a T-shirt and shorts—screaming for transport on the street. She described the scene as something out of a movie, admitting she ran like a “mad, crazy woman” trying to flag down a rickshaw while her husband was bleeding. She noted that she was grateful no one caught the frantic scene on video, as she was solely focused on saving him.
The trauma of the evening was felt by the entire family, including their son, Taimur. Kareena shared the heartbreaking moment she saw Saif injured in the lift, and how Taimur, witnessing the ordeal, innocently asked if his father was going to die. Despite the severity of the situation, Saif managed to keep his composure, signaling to Kareena to focus on getting him to the hospital. Reflecting on the attack, the actor humorously remarked that he survived only because the intruder used a poor-quality knife that broke upon impact, noting that had it been a better blade, the outcome could have been fatal.
