The political divide in Bollywood has deepened as veteran actor Gajendra Chauhan has issued a bold challenge to Naseeruddin Shah. The conflict stems from Shah’s recent social media commentary where he criticized the BJP-led central government’s handling of student protests at institutions like JNU, SRFTI, and Jamia Millia Islamia. In a video posted to Facebook, Shah expressed his defiance against the current political climate, famously declaring himself a “Dimagi Naxal” while accusing the government of stifling dissent and endangering the country’s democratic fabric.
Responding to these sharp remarks, Chauhan, a vocal BJP supporter, hit back by questioning Shah’s political motives. He argued that if the acclaimed actor is so committed to opposing the government, he should step away from the sidelines and enter the electoral fray. Chauhan did not stop at mere criticism; he issued a direct challenge, stating that he would be willing to run against Shah in any constituency to ensure his defeat. He further noted that he intends to petition his party to field him specifically against Shah should the latter decide to contest an election.
Chauhan expressed deep disappointment with Shah’s public stance, suggesting that these political outbursts have tarnished the immense respect and honor the veteran actor earned through his illustrious career in cinema. Describing himself as a proud patriot and a dedicated BJP worker, Chauhan maintained that Shah’s rhetoric is detrimental to the national discourse. Meanwhile, Shah remains steadfast in his criticism, asserting that the courage of the youth will eventually overcome the government’s attempts to undermine the education system and democracy.
