The Indian film industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor Nana Patekar, who died on Thursday at the age of 75 after suffering a severe cardiac arrest. Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, confirmed that despite 45 minutes of intensive efforts by medical staff to revive him, the actor could not be saved. Reports indicate that Nana had reached out to a friend at 2:30 am expressing discomfort, prompting the friend to arrive at his residence by 4 am to seek medical assistance.
Following the news of his death, cinematic icons Chiranjeevi and Kamal Haasan took to social media to honour the late star. Chiranjeevi praised Nana’s unique artistic journey and powerful screen presence, while specifically highlighting his selfless commitment to farmers through his foundation. Kamal Haasan remembered him as a force of nature, noting that his legacy extended far beyond the silver screen, citing his dedication to humanitarian work in Maharashtra and his volunteer service during the Kargil War as testaments to his character.
Nana Patekar leaves behind a monumental body of work that spanned both Hindi and Marathi cinema. After making his debut in the 1978 film Gaman, he became a household name with iconic performances in movies like Parinda, Prahar, Krantiveer, Khamoshi, and Ab Tak Chhappan. His portrayal in the Marathi drama Natsamrat is widely regarded as a career-defining moment that cemented his legendary status.
